FROM SCRATCH

From Scratch.jpg

The From Scratch course is ideal for absolute beginners who would like an initial “leg-up” into the world of horse riding. This course includes learning the basics in walk, trot and canter, stable management and horse care, road safety and hacking, and tack and equipment.

This course is the first step towards having your own horse. While we would never recommend buying a horse after just one course, we will set you up with enough basic knowledge of riding and horse care to turn your dream into a possibility.

Progress Expectation

The expectation of progress is based on 5 days for relatively fit and healthy individuals. Our aim is for you to be capable and confident in walk, trot and canter without assistance, to be able to safely groom, feed and generally care for a horse, identify basic types of tack, tack up and untack a horse, identify basic illness and lameness, have an understanding of basic anatomy and gather enough knowledge to stay safe on roads and in open spaces.

Progress is specific to each individual, and confidence is as, if not more, important than capability. Although we have had many individuals who have achieved all of the above, that does not mean that you have to. We are always ready to alter the course programme to suit the rider to ensure that you achieve as much as your body will allow.
